Kent Olds was born March 5th 1963. He was named after his moms music teacher. His mom told him that he had a lot of hair. Kent grew up in Anthony Kansas. He lived on N Springfield Street, in a old house, with his mom, dad, and brother. He played with his brother and friends for fun. They played war, football, road their bike, boxed, played golf, and climbed in trees. He also liked to build and take things apart.
Kent went to Washington Elementary K-3, Washington Annex 4-5, Lincoln Jumior High 6-8 and Chaparral High School 9-12. He was a good student because he behaved, but he could also be bad sometimes. His favorite subject in school was English. Kents favorite teachers were Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Weichen. In school he was the class clown.
His responsibilities at home were taking care of the dog, making his bed, and help clean up the house. Kent had a job at his dad's grocery store, Larry's IGA. He had to take out the trash, mop the floor and carry out people's groceries.
Kent wanted to be just like his dad when he grew up. One of the big world events he remembers growing up was when astronauts first landed on the moon. What was different for Kent growing up today from growing up back then is the technology.
Kent did not go to college and did not join the military, but later took classes to become a pastor. He decided he wanted to become a pastor because of God. He is now the pastor at Revolution Fellowship.
Kent worked at a grocery store most of his life. What he liked most about it is that he got to meet many new people. The thing he liked least about it was the long hours. Long hours meant that he had to work late so he couldn't be at home with his family as much.
Kent and Cynthia Olds got married August 16th 1981. He was 18 years old. They got married at Harpers Methodist Church. The church's air conditioner broke right before the wedding and lots of people were there. Also Kents car broke down on the way to the wedding.
A year later after the wedding, in 1982 he had a daughter named Kandance. Two years later, in 1984 they had another girl named Kiley. In 1986 they had another girl named Natalie. They had one more daughter in 1995 named Meredith. Kent said that the best part of raising his girls was watching them growing up and learning new things throughout life. He also said that the worst part was disaplening them and that the easiest part was when they were first born.
A typical day for Kent today is very busy. He spends his time helping and talking to people, and taking many phone calls, whether it is about church or something else. In his free time he likes to read. Kent said that the most important thing to him was "God, because he guides my life and gives me grace."
In Kents 20's he had become a dad to 4 girls. What Kent remembers most about his 30's is that he would go to all of his daughters school activities, such a sports, programs, etc. In his 40's he started a new career. He started working at Cessna. He became a pastor at Revolution Felowship in his 50's. What stands out most to him about these years is how life changes. He said that how it ends up is not anything like how it ends up like.
When I asked Kent about how he feels about getting older he said "I'm not ever going to get old." The hardest thing for him about getting old is that his body doesn't move or work like it used to. Kent thought the best part was that he got smarter everyday.
What Kent likes most about his life so far is raising his kids. He also likes all of the changes throughout life. Kent is really proud and happy to be married for 34 years. He wants his children and grandchildren to always remember that he loves them no matter what.
The best thing about living in Anthony for Kent is its a small town and he knows everyone. Also he likes how friendly and nice the people are. One of his favorite memories about Anthony is the swimming pool.
Kent would say a good life for him now is doing what God tells or asks him to do. A successful life for him now is serving in your passion. That means to always do what you want to do and be who you are.
